COOPERAGE – MAKING OF BARRELS

Historically, barrels were used for the storage and transportation of goods.  “Cooperage”, the art of wood barrel making, is an ancient skill.  The actual oak wood barrel making process has changed very little even with the advance and progress of culture.  To achieve the highest standards of quality, the work must still be performed by the hands of a skilled cooper.

The use of oak barrels, casks, vats, kegs, tubs, tuns, vintage butts, barriques, hogsheads and barricas is a centuries old tradition.

BAJDA is a renowned expert in the production of barrels, vats and casks made from a fine selection of oak wood.

We, at BAJDA, operate a state-of-the-art cooperage at our Mendoza, Argentina facility and the crafting of oak barrels is a proud family tradition.

Our products are manufactured in Argentina using premium quality, first choice selected oak to ensure durability.

We select the best oak wood suppliers in the United States and in Europe from where we import this fine raw material.

Then the oak is air-dried for many summers and winters, a process which is possible due to Mendoza's dry climate.

This extended period of seasoning imparts a rich character and adds texture without masking flavours.

Later on, once seasoned, the oak is delivered into the hands of the BAJDA coopers to be fashioned into barrels, casks and vats destined to the vintage wine producers.

After being carefully cut and manipulated into shape the cooper fires the barrels to toast the wood properly taking care so as not to have a negative impact on the structure and texture of the wines.
